Friday's Fancies: Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day Weekend is the theme for this week's Friday's Fancies from Alison of {long distance loving}. This holiday weekend is the last hurrah - seen as the unofficial end of summer. Are any of my mid-Atlantic readers headed to Baltimore for the Grand Prix of Baltimore? Perhaps traveling to a wedding this weekend is in your plans instead. Maybe you are hosting a party for friends and family! Since I will be in Baltimore for the long weekend, enjoying the Grand Prix festivities, I need to be comfortable but chic! Here are two of the looks I have packed:

Friday's Fancies: Back to School

Alison of {long distance loving} has me dreaming up fun things like freshly-sharpened pencils, Lisa Frank folders, and styling my wardrobe to Cher and her classmates standards...

So, let's pretend I was a high school senior or freshman in college when Clueless came out. That way we can do a throwback with current, designer clothes this time around. Also: let's pretend I did not have glasses (horrible horrible horrible frames, too!):

Friday's Fancies: Around Town

TGIF! Alison of {long distance loving} gave us this lead into this week's post:
"create a look which showcases your favorite outfit for running around town"
...I do know that what I wear to Whole Foods or Petsmart is not the same as what I wear shopping at boutiques, etc. I learned a long time ago (prior to working at Nordstrom) that dressing well to go to a store or the mall gives you much more respect by the sales associates working on commission... sad but true! So, the below is what I dreamed up:

Friday's Fancies: Around Town

Even if I go window-shopping, I almost always wear nude lingerie in case I see something I need to try on. It is so much easier to try on clothing with a nude strapless bra and a nude bottom - it keeps the line smooth and you can really see how the garment looks on you - not the silly lingerie sticking out! Just a word of advice from my former lingerie-fit-specialist-self.

Oh! And a pair of heels. Even if you do not want to walk in heels, if you are going shopping, always bring a pair of heels along to help figure out where a true hemline is going to fall on you. My Mom taught me that one.

What do you wear when you go shopping or errand-running around town?

Why not? Wednesday: Vogue Boy

I have decided that from time-to-time, on Wednesdays, I will share with you all some of my favorite internet discoveries. I was a big geek back in the day, so some of these might be 'too weird' for some of you to get, and others might remember them fondly as being part of the 'greatest hits' that you can recall ever finding online (or thanks to Jezebel, ebaumsworld, early YouTube, Vimeo, etc.). Occasionally you will laugh so hard you will cry. There will be no rules as to what kinds of goodness I post on here... so I hope you all are prepared!

Today we have "Vogue Boy," circa 2011 (but the video is from 1991) from Robert Jeffrey:

"VOGUE BOY": ME AT NINE, PERFORMING TO MADONNA IN SUMMER '91! from Angelo de Vries / Robert Jeffrey on Vimeo.

Read his "Born This Way" story from Paul V.

I love this kid. His parents let him be who he wanted to be, he is comfortable with himself, and he is such an entertainer! What a cutie with character!

Had you seen this viral sensation before?

Friday's Fancies: Treat Time

Happy Friday y'all! This Friday's Fancies post is my first in a while - I always enjoy dreaming something up whenever I see those tell-tale emails from Alison of {long distance loving}. This week's concept is one of her most creative to date:
"shift your attention to your favorite summer treat. [. . . .] translate your treat to an outfit--and get hungry (or thirsty) in the process!"

Friday's Fancies: Treat Time

Well, I love a good, boozy piña colada. It is one of my favorite summer treats. It helps me relax after a horrid day at work. I think one of the biggest sources of sugar for me is a nice cocktail (or three). I rarely ever have it from a mix, although sometimes I do (and sometimes those mixes are WEIRD). Regardless, the signature colors put me in the best mood, which you can see reflected in this Friday's Fancies post!

What is your favorite treat during the warm, summer months?

Fall 2013: Banana Republic plaid trench

Last night I saw this stunning trench coat being advertised in the September issue of Lucky Magazine - everything about the ad says 'Fall' to me!

The plaid reminds me of a car coat my Grandmama owns that I have always loved. Knowing her, she likely bought it from Brooks Brothers or Talbots 20 years ago and had it tailored to her petite frame. The plaid of the BR trench is similar to how I remember the liner of her coat, which must mean she wore it on their Virginia farm, Liberty Hill, when I was small.

{as you can see, she has always loved plaid}

So once I got to work today I knew I had to look it up and see what it was made of, price, availability {which you can read below}:
fabric & care
•98% Cotton, 2% Spandex.
•Dry clean.
•Imported.

overview
•This trench maintains classic styling with a double-breasted closure and belt, but gets made over in plaid.
•Point collar.
•Long sleeves with button-tab cuffs.
•Double-breasted closure.
•Front-tie belt. Front flap pockets.
•Fully lined.

fit & sizing
•Body length: Petite: 31 1/2"; Regular: 34"; Tall: 36".

I always find Banana Republic items to run big, so I probably would get a Tall in this coat (I'm long-waisted) and might try a size medium first!
