Week 28 Pregnancy Journal

How Far Along? 28 weeks

Week 28 Began: Friday, December 23

Size of Baby: size of large eggplant (14.8", 2.25 pounds)

Gender: A girl, Margaret

Weight Gain: Finally hitting some strides here with weight gain! I'm up at about 10 pounds gained now.

Maternity Clothes: Loving my cozy long sleeves sweater dresses I got earlier this year with my suede boots. Big fan of some oversized sweaters and some of my Grandpapa's cardigans I took on, perfect layering when tops won't button anymore!

Nursery: Nothing here other than confirming that we definitely love the paint color we chose. Everything else will wait until after Christmas.

Movement: Kicking and movement is consistent but not uncomfortable.

Symptoms: backache, abdominal aches and pains.

Side Effects: Itchy stomach. I use this awesome moisturizing oil from Eminence to keep it in check - a local dayspa in RVA sells it but here it is on Amazon in case you want to check it out.

Sleep: Harder to fall back asleep when I go to sleep. Having foam ear plugs, eye mask, and a noise machine going helps... as well as the Boppy wedge pillow!

Cravings: Sushi. Chocolate peanut butter everything. I mean it... everything!

What I Miss: Sushi.

Best Moment This Week: Holidays with the family - back in Lex - but with M and all kinds of fun happy memories.

What I Learned This Week: That women in my family have given birth both early and REALLY late. So it will be fun to see where Margaret falls in relation to the due date!

Looking Forward To: Getting nursery organized in the new year - we got a stroller, crib and the car seat for Christmas gifts!

Week 27 Pregnancy Journal

How Far Along? 27 weeks

Week 27 Began: Friday, December 16

Size of Baby: head of cauliflower (14.5", 2 pounds)

Gender: A girl, Margaret

Weight Gain: Not really much weight gain which I don't know is an OK thing or not? Kinda hovering around in the 7-9 lb gained range.

Maternity Clothes: Super lazy lounge looks. I love yoga pants, shelf tank bra tops, and my collection of vintage lounge pants and t-shirts.

Nursery: Trying to figure out how the layout of the room will be with furniture both new and old.

Movement: More obvious kicks are happening and I love trying to share them with M.

Symptoms: backache, abdominal aches and pains, gas, heart burn, leg/calf cramping

Side Effects: acid reflux is terrible. I have never had this problem before so it's totally a new thing to have to take stuff - Zantac is my new BFF

Sleep: Still getting some 10 hour nights which is marvelous. Having M with me again and also being back in our house just makes it all a lot easier for me.

Cravings: Sushi. Chocolate peanut butter everything. I even made doughnuts for the first time ever to that effect (see top of post).

What I Miss: Sushi.

Best Moment This Week: Michael FINALLY came home and he FINALLY was able to feel Margaret kick!!!

What I Learned This Week: A LOT about breastfeeding! I'm still REALLY on the breastfeeding bandwagon and am hoping so hard I can produce and do really well with that. So I am currently reading: Breastfeeding Pure and Simple from La Leche League. Super informative and not too complicated to follow!

Looking Forward To: Christmas with my husband and I reunited!

Week 26 Pregnancy Journal

Proof that last Sunday I DID remember to take a 26 weeks photo! My weeks change on Fridays so now that M is home after being gone 3 weeks we will get some better bump shots of me from here on out (incl this week for 27 weeks!). I'll also try to rotate out to some other dresses haha!! But this way you can see the @ted_baker dress a lot better. How Far Along? 26 weeks

Week 26 Began: Friday, December 9

Size of Baby: length of a scallion (14", 1.75 pounds)

Gender: A girl, Margaret

Weight Gain: I actually didn't even weigh myself this week, but I am showing more.

Maternity Clothes: Really quiet week so nothing of note here!

Nursery: My sister and her husband came to Lexington - I hadn't seen them in 3 years so it was a nice catch up session. She brought me her hardcover illustrated edition of The Hobbit which I adored as a little kid. It was a super thoughtful 'heirloom' style thing to share with me and our next generation!

Movement: Still subtle but definitely there.

Symptoms: Backache so bad! Gas... so awkward. haha. Heartburn. Leg cramping - really just in my calves.

Side Effects: A new thing is if I don't eat soon enough I get really REALLY tired and irritable. My parents are used to a leisurely eating schedule so it's been a lot of my snacking throughout the day!

Sleep: I'm hitting 8+ a night, sometimes 10 hrs which is AWESOME. My Dad often is letting Lily out in the morning for me so I can sleep more which is so nice and helpful.

Cravings: Chocolate. Popcorn.

What I Miss: My husband. I hope he comes home soon.

Best Moment This Week: Visiting with family. Having a big family meal for my sister and her husband while they were in town.

What I Learned This Week: It's okay so say "no" to something and no shame in walking away from drama.

Looking Forward To: M coming home soon.

Week 25 Pregnancy Journal

How Far Along? 25 weeks

Week 25 Began: Friday, December 2

Size of Baby: size of a rutabega (13.5", 1.5 pounds)

Gender: A girl, Margaret

Weight Gain: I'm only up about 7-8 pounds since I first got pregnant, which is surprising me. I definitely am working to keep an eye on my food intake to make sure we are BOTH getting enough.

Maternity Clothes: This week my parents, Grandmother, and I went to West Virginia to The Greenbrier so I had to dress up a bit more than I had been the past week or so. It was a chilly rainy day when we headed over there so I pulled out my Gamee fur (Gamee is what we called my Great-Grandmother Jones) and was so relieved when it still fit! The dress I am wearing in the post at the top is by Ted Baker and is called the Tarala body con dress. It is SO comfy and chic for a non-maternity dress. Fully lined and is now on sale on ASOS for a great price!

Nursery: For Small Business Saturday I got a few items from our local baby shop called Baby's First Gifts. I totally forgot to mention that in my last post! A Mother Goose nursery book, a few simple basic things like that.

Movement: Definitely more movement. Still very subtle because placenta is still anterior.

Symptoms: Ugh, the heartburn has begun and it SUCKS!

Side Effects: my nails are breaking. Which is weird as I have not changed anything about my diet or prenatals so that bums me out - I just had my nails done and had hoped they would last through the holidays... oh well!

Sleep: Still working out in my favor a lot of the time... but it is harder and harder to get moving before 10am.

Cravings: Hot fudge sundaes. Hot chocolate. Chocolate anything, really. My Mom gave me her container of Trader Joe's dark chocolate covered ginger which has been AWESOME for a night-time snack.

What I Miss: Sushi. Stinky soft French cheeses. Raw oysters. Mimosas.

Best Moment This Week: My first unsolicited belly rub - thankfully it came from my Mom - not a stranger! She is so excited about her first grandbaby - she is 72 so she has waited a LONG TIME for this moment!! Also going to The Greenbrier with my Dad, Mom, and Grandmama for my Dad's birthday. It was our first family visit since my Grandpapa passed away which made it bittersweet. I think we all thought we were prepared to be there without him but it hit all of us in different ways... that said, it was a good outing as a family unit.

What I Learned This Week: my glucose test went REALLY well which was great. Basically I didn't even fast and I was still really low so I am kinda given carte blanche on what I am eating and snacking on. Feeling really good about that! No more appointments until the new year. Blood pressure is also really good so lots of relief heading into the holidays. I think all of this health news boils down to my staying on the Metformin my fertility doc put me on - it has kept everything in check for sure.

Looking Forward To: Everyday M and I try to talk, so I'm looking forward to hearing his voice and hearing about his day as he is still out of town.

Week 24 Pregnancy Journal

How Far Along? 24 weeks

Week 24 Began: Friday, November 25

Size of Baby: length of an ear of corn (1.3 pounds)

Gender: A girl, Margaret

Weight Gain: I actually didn't weigh myself this week since my last OB appt told me I was on the low end and wanted to enjoy the holiday weekend without guilt!

Maternity Clothes: Since I'm staying in my hometown for a while and I'm not working anymore I'm tapering into more casual stuff. I've loved expanding my loungewear and athletic options - still not specifically maternity but my yoga pants... which continue to be really comfy since they can be over the tummy or rolled under! Lots of fun finding out from week to week what tops still fit as my bust continues to expand. These shelf bra tops are a favorite of mine!

Nursery: Nothing really going on here since I'm not home right now. I have been going through boxes of stuff from here at my parents house to sort things to go in the nursery which of course Dad loves as it frees up space in his storerooms... haha.

Movement: Definitely can tell what is the baby and what is gas now...! Can feel a vague general sloshing if I flip from one side to the other while I sleep.

Symptoms: No real symptoms. I'm pretty boring for a pregnant person... for now. My nails keep going from being strong and bionic to being super delicate which is annoying. Same with my hair. Sleepiness is a real thing! I want to just hibernate.

Side Effects: Gas, honestly nothing much else!


Cravings: Good savory foods. There is a great place here in Lex called Blue Phoenix and they have awesome gluten free/vegan club sandwich that has artichoke hearts and avocado and cheese... etc etc. It is one of my favorite things right now. Also my Mom's turkey corn chowder. Mom and Dad's chili. Dad's broccoli/asparagus with hollandaise sauce. Mom's caramel cake.

What I Miss: Gluten-y sushi. Still. The occasional rum & Coke.

Best Moment This Week: Going out on a cold but sunny day with Lily to walk the Chessie Trail here in Lexington. We did over 8,000 steps which for me is really good. My goal everyday is 5,000 steps as my parents house is multi-floored and going up and down all the flights of stairs is not the same as just walking around. Another great moment was captured in the photo at the top of the post - Lexington's Christmas parade! It was HUGE this year and a lot of fun. I'm pictured with a girl I've known since pre-school so it was great seeing Tara and catching up!

What I Learned This Week: Currently reading: The Happiest Baby on the Block, Second Edition by Harvey Karp. Learned about the 5 S's and more ideas on how to calm the baby. This book was frequently referred to us by friends so we wanted to check it out... pretty sure it could've been shorter! But another takeaway was tips on how to do baby massage, which I started doing when I was nannying and it seemed to go over really well for that little girl, so I look forward to seeing how/if Margaret likes it as well!

Looking Forward To: Getting a Christmas tree at my parents house - M usually likes getting one with me pretty soon after Thanksgiving (at a cut-your-own place) and my parents are not as uhhh... enthusiastic about it as I am. Which is hard, but it's their house so it's just another weird thing to get used to as I stay with them this holiday season.
